Working with blood and blood products

Blood and blood products should always be handled with great care. The skin is the most important barrier against infection, and you have to be especially careful if you have wounds, eczema on your hands or fingers which is breaking the natural defence.

NOTE: Contact immediately the The Health Service at UiO for a blood test or necessary treatment if you have an accident which may cause an infection (contact information in the right-hand menu). 

Health exams

At UiO there is a requirement for targeted health examination of employees/students who are working with infected material from animals or humans (infected blood etc.).

Required vaccinations

BiO or the group leader will pay for this expense.

• Hepatits B - strongly recommended for all persons working with human blood.
• Tetanus - strongly recommended for all persons working with animals.
